Edward Hospital has been named one of Becker’s Hospital Review’s 65 Great Community Hospitals. Edward is one of only three Illinois community hospitals to make the list, which recognizes high-performing leaders in patient care, clinical quality and community outreach.
A record number of golfers attended the Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center Foundation’s 27th Annual Charity Golf Classic in June. The 272 golfers enjoyed the day on three courses at Cog Hill and participated in many hole contests and activities, including a putting contest. More than $170,000 in sponsorships were raised to support this event, with proceeds benefiting the Provena St. Joes Pediatric Center of Excellence in Joliet.
Edward Hospital has been granted a three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program of the American College of Surgeons. NAPBC accreditation is given to centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. Accredited centers must demonstrate compliance with standards for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease.
In a Report to the Community, officials from Provena Health ministries in the greater Joliet community have detailed a total 2010 charitable impact of more than $58 million, 29 percent of which (or $17,492,731) was free care at cost – composed of charity care and bad debt – and 68 percent of which ($39,754,690) represented combined provisions of care not fully reimbursed from Medicaid and Medicare. In addition, Provena ministries contributed over $1.6 million in community benefit services, which are specific programs and activities aimed at meeting identified community health needs.
Edward Hospital has earned Gold Performance Achievement Awards from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s (AHA/ASA) “Get With The Guidelines” program for treatment of heart failure and stroke. The awards recognize that for at least 24 months Edward has demonstrated 85 percent compliance with nationally accepted standards of care for heart failure and stroke patients.
