Midwest Music Academy director, Tom Serb announced the winner of this year’s summer music scholarship competition as Brittany Mytnik of Plainfield South High School. Miss Mytnik will receive free music lessons from June through August and has chosen to study voice with Julie Kersaan, a three time state winner of the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition, a silver medalist in the European Grand Prix of Choral Music and a member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus.
Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet announced the addition of a perinatal heart specialist, Bettina Cuneo, M.D. and sophisticated fetal echocardiography services to detect and treat fetal heart problems possibly as early as during pregnancy. Bettina Cuneo, M.D. is a nationally acclaimed, board-certified perinatal cardiologist, who heads the new service at the medical center.
 
Green Village Lecture Series workshop, sponsored by Village of Plainfield and the Plainfield Public Library, featured Steve Tiwald, founder of the Green Earth Institute and its CSA program. The CSA program is an arrangement that provides a direct connection between consumers and local farmers. In return for purchasing “shares” of the CSA, consumers will receive periodic boxes of fresh, nutritious vegetables throughout the harvest season – all without the need to weed! For more info visits www.greenearthinstitute.org.
 
Edward Hospital’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is using a new Total Body Cooling treatment – similar to an ice pack that reduces swelling – to help newborn babies survive brain injuries. Edward is the only hospital in the Chicago area other than University of Chicago that’s managed patients using this treatment. 
 
National City Bank will officially change names on June 14th to PNC Bank. National City became part of the PNC Financial Services Group in December 2008; PNC will have 2 branch locations in Plainfield and 135 branches in Chicagoland. PNC has been recognized on the Fortune magazine list of Most Admired Companies, Top 50 Companies for Executive Women by National Association for Female Executives and 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers by Working Mother. 
 
After serving patients for 15 years on Lockport Street, Dental Associates of Plainfield has relocated within town to a new building with spacious parking. This family dental practice has both male and female dentists to serve all ages, and is open for business at 14955 S.
