

Sue Palmer is an Area Programmer for the Illinois Department of Transportation, Region One Office in Schaumburg, Illinois. She has worked for the Department for 31 years. As Area Programmer, she represents the District within her assigned Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning Council Areas of Lake, McHenry and Will Counties. She coordinates ongoing and future highway improvement projects within the Department as well as with local governmental agencies, legislators, media sources and the motoring public. She also assists in the development of the Department's multi-year program as well as the Annual Highway Improvement Program.
The mission of the Illinois Department of Transportation is to provide safe, cost effective transportation for Illinois in ways that enhance quality of life, promote economic prosperity and demonstrate respect for our environment.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is comprised of four divisions:
• Division of Highways which is responsible for the roadway network.
• Division of Public and Intermodal Transportation which is responsible for rail and mass transit.
• Division of Aeronautics which is responsible for airport facilities and air transportation.
• Division of Traffic Safety which is responsible for promoting highway safety, compilation of accident data and determining high accident locations.
