Former Joliet Area Community Hospice Director of Clinical Services, June Brown volunteered her husband, Ed to create a wooden display case to accommodate the golden shovel that was used during the groundbreaking ceremony on September 25th, 2002. After years of the shovel being displayed in other offices and areas of the Hospice Home it was decided by the current CEO Rick Kasper that the shovel would be placed in the living room in the Hospice Home for all to see when that room is utilized. Ed took meticulous pride in picking out the best cherry wood and took extraordinary detail in varnishing this remarkable display case that now holds the shovel that started it all.

Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center received a 5-Star rating from HealthGrades for the quality of its patient care in each of eight clinical areas including; Cardiac Care, Cardiac Surgery, Stroke Care, Pulmonary Care, Gastrointestinal Care, Critical Care, Women’s Health and Emergency Medicine. The recognition is based on the Thirteenth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America study, which analyzes patient outcomes at virtually all of the nation’s hospitals.

Lucy(10) and Jimmy(7) Londergon of Minooka are changing children’s lives one bookmark at a time. They made homemade bookmarks; some were laminated with dried flowers and some were paper with an imaginative drawing. Lucy and Jimmy went to local craft stores and hand chose fabrics to make homemade individualized pillow cases for every pediatric patient in the Joliet Area Community Hospice program for the upcoming holiday season from their profits of selling the bookmarks.

HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent healthcare ratings organization, has published a study that finds Edward Hospital is #1 in Illinois for Cardiology Services, which includes treatment of heart attack, treatment of heart failure and catheterization lab procedures like angioplasty and the insertion of stents. Edward’s #1 ranking is based on mortality data over a three-year period in these three areas for patients in the hospital, 30 days after hospitalization and 180 days after hospitalization.
