Conservation Plainfield Promotes Environmental Programs

As Benjamin Franklin once said, a penny saved is a penny earned. At the September PACC Membership Luncheon, Conservation Plainfield will be giving this famous nugget of wisdom a new twist for Plainfield-area businesses. Every dollar saved through environmental efforts is an additional dollar of profit. Members of Conservation Plainfield (CP) will present an overview of the organization’s activities, including a spotlight on the Business Energy Assessment Report (BEAR) tool CP has developed to assist local businesses with their environmental efforts.

Conservation Plainfield is a growing not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the ecological issues in the Plainfield area, increasing public appreciation of the environment, and being proactive in planning for a sustainable future. CP’s membership believes that the business community can play an important role in conserving energy and other natural resources, while promoting more sustainable environmental practices. Businesses consume nearly the same amount of energy as our homes, so we are able to double our impact by looking for ways to reduce energy at home and at work. And these environmental savings can result in cost savings and increased profits, too.

In addition to the BEAR initiative, Conservation Plainfield hosts a range of activities throughout the year. These include an annual Earth Day Expo, DuPage River Sweep, Summer School Program, Environmental Enhancement Project, and Speakers Roundtable. CP’s next event is a legislative roundtable scheduled for mid-October, when local, regional and state officials will be invited to discuss the regulatory framework for managing stormwater and identifying opportunities to improve regional stormwater management.

Conservation Plainfield includes members from the public, as well as representatives from the Village of Plainfield, Plainfield Park District, Plainfield Public Library District, Plainfield Township, and Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202.
